Shopify Goes All-In, New AI Capabilities Arrive

18. Apr. 2025

Companies are getting serious about embedding AI deep into operations, while the AI models themselves keep getting smarter and more personal.

POV: Shopify’s employees in 5 years

Shopify's CEO, Tobias Lütke, just laid down a clear marker: expect to use AI everywhere, reflexively. It's not just encouraged anymore; it's becoming part of the basic workflow, showing up in how they build products and even how employees are reviewed.

Adding teeth to that mandate, Shopify has reportedly paused hiring unless a role absolutely cannot be handled by AI. That’s a strong signal about where they see future efficiency and growth coming from – fewer new faces, more intelligent automation.

Shifting to the user side, ChatGPT now remembers things. The popular chatbot can reference past conversations to give you more relevant answers over time. Don't worry, you're in control – you can manage its memory or turn it off completely.

Meanwhile, Google DeepMind released a new AI model that's a beast at handling massive amounts of information. It can process contexts up to 400,000 tokens long. Early reports suggest it's performing exceptionally well on complex real-world tasks, including understanding huge codebases.

These are the kinds of shifts and new tools that shape the landscape, keeping us Ahead of the Wave AI.
