Businesses Are Finally Serious About AI Spending

30. Apr. 2025

Forget the whispers and the pilots – companies are putting real money into AI, and their teams are actually using the tools every single day. The latest numbers paint a very different picture than just a few months ago.

Was Donald Duck doing AI?

According to KPMG's recent pulse check, enterprise AI investment isn't just ticking up, it's making a noticeable jump. We're talking an increase from an average of $89 million to $114 million allocated. Crucially, that money seems tied to actual adoption, with daily use of AI productivity tools more than doubling, soaring from 22% to 58%.

This isn't just about one-off tools. Companies are getting serious about integrating GenAI into their core operations. The survey found workflows incorporating this tech climbed from 24% to 35%. And those helpful knowledge assistants? Their weekly use jumped significantly too. The signal is loud and clear: AI is moving from the lab into the regular workday.

Interestingly, what keeps leaders up at night is shifting. Worries about AI accuracy and fairness are on the rise, now concerning nearly a third of respondents. Meanwhile, fears of misuse by external bad actors actually decreased. Perhaps companies feel they have a better handle on external threats than on controlling the nuances of the AI itself?

The next big leap seems to be AI agents. The number of organizations piloting these autonomous tools nearly doubled in just one quarter. Almost everyone surveyed plans to deploy them eventually, with most looking to buy off-the-shelf solutions rather than building from scratch. It suggests a push for speed in getting these capabilities online.

Still, amidst the rush, the grown-up concerns remain front and center. Risk management, especially data privacy and cybersecurity, is overwhelmingly cited as the top challenge for AI strategy this year. It’s a reminder that scaling AI isn't just about the tech; it's about building a secure and trustworthy foundation.

Navigating these evolving priorities and rapid deployment cycles is precisely why staying informed is non-negotiable for being Ahead of the Wave AI.
